This is a spoiler-free review
I had watched the Walking Dead TV Series up to Season 3- I knew who the governor was at the time I read this book - but I don't think you have to have seen the TV show. This series works well as a standalone.
I didn't like the narrative style at first, neither did I like the characters very much. This, however, changed once the characters started to change mentally and physically. There was a lot of suspense in the story, although some of what happened was foreseeable.
The ending really surprised me and as I continue watching the 3rd season of The Walking Dead TV Series, I now view the Governor from a different perspective. This story is definitely an interesting addition to the character and it is really interesting to know about his story.
